Therapy vs Consultation

While both services can help you create meaningful change, they are not the same service.

What Is the Difference?

Therapy is a clinical service focused on mental health and emotional well being.
As a licensed clinical social worker, I use clinical assessment and evidence based therapeutic interventions to help address mental health concerns, reduce symptoms, improve functioning, and work through deeper emotional and relational patterns.

Therapy may involve exploring your history, understanding how past experiences affect the present, processing trauma or grief, developing insight, and building healthier patterns over time.

Therapy

Relationship Consulting

Relationship consulting is a focused, non clinical service designed to help you address a specific concern and determine what you can do next.

Consulting focuses on translating insight into action. It can help you establish goals, develop communication strategies, strengthen coping and relational skills, navigate conflict, and build your capacity to respond differently in the present and future.
Consulting does not include mental health diagnosis or treatment.

Even when consulting is informed by trauma aware principles, it does not provide trauma treatment or replace psychotherapy. The emphasis remains on present circumstances, practical skills, decision making, and future oriented action.

At Heartfelt Needs Counseling and Consulting LLC, therapy and relationship consulting are intentionally kept separate.

You will receive either counseling or consulting based on the service that best fits your identified needs. These services are not provided simultaneously, and clients cannot transition between therapist and consultant roles. This means a therapy client cannot simply transition into consulting with me, and a consulting client cannot transition into therapy with me. If your needs change and a different level or type of service becomes appropriate, I will help you determine the most appropriate next step, which may include referral to another qualified professional or coordinated care.

These boundaries are intentional. They protect the integrity of the professional relationship, maintain clear ethical boundaries, and prioritize your well being.

Both services are designed to meet your needs for healing, growth, and prosperity.
